HIGH SCOOL NOTES.
Members of the Webster Literary Society are practicing for a play to be given at the Christmas program of this club. A member of the senior class handed a paper decorated with the Bkull and cross-bones to Mr. Dean last week with a challenge from the seniors, to the juniors for a football game. To arouse interest it was suggested that the winning team be given an oyster supper by the losing team. The juniors responded with a paper, likewise decorated, and with the information that their only open dates were, on Christmas and St. Patrick’s days, but they were willing to accept the challenge on either of these dates. Several library, books have been brought over to the high school for reference work and a number have also been brought in by the A librarian has .been elected and study tables provided for the students’ use, and it is hoped to get a larger collection to enable the pupils to get more outside reading. The assumed dignity of the “boyish senior” spread a smile over the faces of the rest of the class in spite of a brave attempt at good behavior. A reading of “The Merchant of Venice” was given at the hew high school auditorium by Miss Ida Fae Smith on Wednesday evening. The high school orchestra has been practicing with the expectation of playing at the recital. Basket ball team sare being organized and the basement has been fitted up for use. It is hoped to have a good team for the girls, as well as the boyß. The old saying, “Pride Goeth Before a Fall,” proved to be true in the case of one of the senior boys one day this week. He had .taken great pride in writing up his weekly theme with which he hoped to gain the admirance of his English teacher, but on going downstairs from the chemistry lab. -treading on air with the prize in hand, he had the great misfortune to lose his footing and fell pell-mell to the bottom of the stairs. The theme was not handed in that day.
