MAINES FARM SELLS FOR $154 PER ACRE

Jndson L. Haines Farm Sold to Ed Bnnton at Public Auction for $49£80. The Maines farm, north of town, sold this Wednesday afternoon at public auction to Edward Ranton, Jr., of Rantoul, 111., for the sum at $154 per acre. The farm consists of 320 acres, and with the improvements is one of the finest and most desirable farms in Jasper county. The consideration therefore was $49,280.00. \The bidding started at $125 and went upward in jumps of $5 per acre. The active bidders were Daniel S. Makeever and Moses and Ike Leopold, a Mr. Castle, of Sheldon, 111,, and the purchaser, Mr. Ranton. Ndjt so very many years ago this same farm sold for $45 per acre. Of course many improvements have been made since that time, but nevertheless this sale Is an indication of the rise in real estate values in Jasper county, and according to land experts here who are qualified to know, their opinion is that Mr. Ranton got a bargain. Tomorrow at two o’clock, the old Prof. Michael farm, south of town, consisting of 303 acres, will be sold via the auction route.
