Gleaner Meeting.

The Gleaners will, have a meeting at their ball Wednesday night, Oct. 16th, at 8 o’clock. A full attendance is desired. Mr, and Mrs. H. R. Kurrie will go to Chicago tomorrow to take up their residence there, after spending the summer months at their home in Rensselaer. The republican meeting held at Parr Friday night was a good one and there was a good sized audience out to listen to the speeches made by Frank Foltz, George Williams, Abe Halleck and Charley Warner. The republican county candidates were also there and made brief speeches. Miss Chede Jordan, of Barkley township, a graduate of the Rensselaer high school, has completed the probation period at the St. Luke’s hospital and entered upon the regular nurse’s traing course. A start was made on Wednesday to break up the poker rooms in Crown Point by pulling two proprietors up before Judge Kopelke, who fined each $lO and costs, and a sentence of 20 days in jail, which was suspended during good behavior, and if business goes on they were told that the jail sentence would have to he worked out It is said there are other places to be looked after later, and in fact the ice has now been broken and something will be doing whenever it is found out for certain the law is being broken.
