GOOD ADVICE FOR ALL YOUNG MEN
Letter Encourages Young Man to Let Whiskj Alone and to Work 24 * Hours a Day.
Owen Meredith in “Lucile” truthfully says: “Of all the good things in this good world around us The one most abundantly furnished and found us And which for that matter we least care about And can~best spare our friends is good counsel no doubt.” However it is not all advice that we can afford to throw away and many young men go wrong because of a little timely warning from some person who has passed over the road before. There has been for some years a - demand that men holding responsible positions be free from- some of the most common vices and the time has arrived where big concerns consider it yery Important that young men who are promoted be total abstainers from the use of intoxicating beverages.
A few days ago the writer saw a letter which was written to a young, man who had just received a promotion. It was from a naan higher up, a man who knew by experience. It said in substance: “The time used to be in substance “The time used to be when a man holding the position to which you have been elevated was considered a success based upon the amount of whisky he could drink. That time, however, has long passed away, and now he is considered a success based upon the amount of business'he secures, and whisky drinking instead of getting business drives it away. I would admonish you to take heed of this modern condition and go after business on the latter day plan. Another thing is Important. You should work twenty-four hours a day if necessary to accomplish good results’ in your line. The man who only works to earn his salary never gets bej>nd that point. There is room at . the top j for the man who measures his service by the full extent of his ability?’ Now isn’t that wholesome advice and isn’t it worthy the full and enthusiastic observance of every young man. It spells success every time it is applied. <
