Virginia Brooks, the Woman Who Is Cleaning Up West Hammond, Threatened by Death. Miss Virginia Brooks, who led the crusade which resulted in the closing of the disorderly resorts in West Hammond, has received an anonymous letter, threatening -her with death unless she discontinues her activity. A similar letter has been received by Mayor Woszeznski, of West Hammond. The letter read as follows: “We have had enough of this. If you do not let up there’s liable to be some trouble. You may get a bomb, dynamite or nitroglycerin.” “I am not at all worried over this latest threat,” said Miss Brooks after reading the letter. “Ever since I entered upon this work of reform my mail has been filled with this kind of trash.
