Got on the Scent
Byford E. Long of Brownstown, secretary to Senator Shively, has sworn off eating at “one-armed restaurants." He had a rather unsatisfactory experience at a downtown dairy lunchroom not long ago and was telling a friend about it “You see, I was in a good deal of a hurry,” explained Long, “and instead of going to a first-class chop house I patronized one of those quick lunch plaoes In Pennsylvania avenue. I told the man behind the marble counter that I wanted some steak smothered In onions, some French fried potatoes on the side and a cup of coffee. Well, I waited and waited, and when I got the food it didn’t look a bit palatable. No more of those cheap bash houses for mine, hereafter/’
“How did you find the steak?" asked tbe interested friend. “By sheer perseverance,” replied Long. “It was trying to hide under the onions, but I ran it down."
