There was a good crowd at league Sunday evening. f Miss Kate Woods, of Monon, and Mr. and Mrs. Mabel Rishling visited Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Clark and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Aca Holeman and baby visited Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Overton and family Sunday. Our school began this Monday morning with Miss Feme Morris as teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Harold attended church and league as Lee Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Jacks and family and Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Jacks visited Mr. and Mrs. Hoy Rishling and family Sunday. Miss Ethel Jacks went to Lafayette Saturday evening. Several from here went to Chicago on the excursion Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Maxwell and family^and Mr. Hubert Maxwell spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Cheater Downs. Mrs. Minerva Wood and Mrs. Bunnell and two children w€re in Lee Monday. Mrs. E. Gilmore, of Monon, came out Tuesday to visit her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Jordan, and family. Miss Ethel Wood, of Michigan, is visiting her uncle, Michel Peregrine, and family. Miss Edna Shomaker came Wednesday morning to visit her sister, Mrs. Eolia Westphal, and family. Mr. and Mrs. James Brown visited Mr. and Mrs. Ed McKinley and family. Mrs. Ida Lewis visited Mrs. Fred Stiers Sunday. (Mr. and Mrs. John Robinson and children attended church at. Lee Sunday. Mrs. Dora Jacks and little sons and Mrs. Mary Jacks and Dollie went, to Remington Wednesday morning to visit Mr. and Mrs. Buffer Lewis and family until Friday, when they returned home. They also attended the. picnic and Sunday school convention at Reynolds Friday. The Home Missionary Society met at Mrs. Ella Noland’s Tuesday afternoon. , i James Brown has gone to Judyville to purchase a team of horses.

It was not celebrated generally by the Hebrew families in Rensselaer and we did not realize that anything special was at hand until we inquired of our aged friend, Abraham Leopold, the cause of his being dressed up. He explained the reason and stated that had his health been better he would have gone to Indianapolis to have participated in the worship and celebration at the Jewish tabernacle. He looks to be in excellent health again but finds it necessary to maintain the utmost care of himself and to keep tolerably close home. Crops there are not very good this year, owing to an excess of rain. Mr. and Mrs. Hildebrand like it there very well. Parmer D. Wells was in Rensselaer yesterday. He is now the state agent for fertilizer company that has not been operating extensively in this territory, but which will now begin an active campaign for business and he is locating agents. Parmer is now making Cincinnati his headquarters. Ina W. Brundson, who has been visiting her father, W. R. Shesler, re-' turned to her home in Hammond last evening. Mr. Shesler accompanied het home and from there he will go to Mitchell, South Dakota, and from there to Miller, where he owns a farm. He will ;renjain there several days looking after the thrashing of hie wheat crop.
John Kohler left yesterday afternoon for Chicago Heights and will spend several days visiting his sons, Peter, John and George, and his daughter, Mary, in Chicago Heights and Chicago In the latter city he expects to witness the aircraft today, but he has no ambition to be a passenger in any of them. --—— < —— iW. R. Jones was here from Francesville today with an auto load of boomers advertising the Francesville street fair, which is to be held next week. They expected to visit McCoysburg, Monticello, Reynolds, Pulaski and Winamac during the day. It had been the intention to start out with thirty car loads, but bwing to the dusty condition of the roads the plan was abandoned. W. O. Newman left this morning for his home in Oklahoma City. He says that there has been considerable building there this year and that he will be employed on work already contracted until Christmas. There was a considerable slump in the real estate business but the city is -too large a factor in the rapidly developing southwest to suffer anything more than temporary damage and he thinks in a year or two the city will be so prosperous that the little “squall” will be entirely forgotten. Sheriff Hbover returned this morning from Jeffersonville, where he yesterday took Eddie Karnatz. They did pot get into New Albany until 7:30 last evening and it was about 9 o’clock when they reached the reformatory. Eddie did not break entirely down but he was feeling very blue and he asked the sheriff to intercede with the authorities not to cut his hair off short. That is one of the first things done with all criminals when they reach the penitentiary. He was also very much in hope that something could be done to get him out of the reformatory as soon as passible. He will make a model prisoner and it is probable that his parole can be procured after a few months if friends intercede in his behalf.
