She spent seven weeks there afad enjoyed the fine climate and is very much improved in health, her limb trouble for which she was twice operated on is now entirely well and she gets about better than she had for years, She reports that the forest fires which occurred four years ago in Wisconsin did a great amount of damage and that some of the trees which had apparently withstood the fire have died during the past year. Mrs. Lowe went to iMonon today to attend the Charles Lowe sale. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Reynolds are now at the Palace Theatre, London, where they opened an engagement on Sept. 2nd. While on the ocean Mr. Reynolds penned a short letter to the writer. They made the trip on the Cunard R. M. S. Mauretania. He states that the quartermaster of the Mauretania told him that the Titanic sank in only 420 feet of water and not in 10,000 feet at claimed by the sensational newspapers of the United States. If the Titanic sits upright at the bottom of the sea the top mast would be within 120 feet of the water’s surface. Divers can go only 150 feet in the water, owing to the great pressure and can refiaain under only 15 minutes or less at a time. Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds will remain abroad until February and will then return to New York and open at the Wintergarden theatre.
Winfred Pullins Is home for a short visit frim his Alabama farm, having come back part way with Marion I. Adams, who has purchased a farm.of 520 acres 2 miles from Winfred’s. The Republican incorrectly stated a few days ago that Mr. Adams had purchased land in Mississippi, whereas we should have said in Alabama. Winfred brought a car load of sweet clover seed to Chicago, disposing of it at a good figure. He continues to do nicely in Alabama and reports great things for the famous “black belt.” He is making extensive improvements on his farm and using all the enterprise of a northern educated farmer, which is doing much ip reclaim the south. He reports that the car load of draft mares which he purchased here last year are all doing well. A large number of northern farmers have invested in t that part of the in recent years and the government has been taking an especial interest in its development It is probable that Samuel E. Sparling and possibly others will invest there.
