U. S. May Intervene to Stop Mexican Rebellion.
It now seems more probable than during any time in the past that the United States will have to intervene to stop the Mexican rebellion. The oft repeated admonitions from this government that the Mexicans must not carry their fighting into the United States and that the federal government must furnish adequate protection to American citizens wp.s violated several times last week. f President Taft was appealed to Saturday and it is believed that he may call a special session of congress before October Ist to secure endorsement for sending troops into Mexico. It is said that the iMadero government is unable to quell the rebellion. President Taft has properly avoided sending troops there for a long time, although he has been criticised for the delay. He realizes that to do so means a long occupation of that country, considerable loss of life and great expense. If further delay, however, is to result in Increased suffering to Americans in Mexico or is apt to cause the powers of the world to criticise us for failure to enforce peace there, the United States may be compelled to interven.
