The gods first placed man on the earth. After a time they noticed that - he was lonesome. So they placed woman on earth to keep him from being lonesome. While this cheered man up immensely it was not long before the gods saw that something would have to be done to keep the woman from suffering from ennui. So then the gods put mirrors on earth.
