Democratic State Organ Says Baltimore Bosses Fooled Bryan.
The Bryan democrats have been under the impression that the Baltimore convention was a great victory for Mr. Bryan, but the Indiana Herald, the democratic state organ, tells a very different story. Here is its version of the Wilson nomination: If ever a man was “played,” Mr. Bryan was certainly outflgured in the convention. The men he opposed are the very men who finally helped nominate Wilson. Where can it be shown that Murphy, Ryan, Taggart, Sullivan or Belmont ever oppsed Woodrow Wilson? They were all opposed to Clark, and their efforts were directed in forcing Bryan to desert Clark by reason of their support. They preferred Wilson to Clark, but they could not put him across with Bryan’s oppo A sition. The point was to get Bryan hitched to the Wilson wagon and then go to it, just as they did. They used Clark to drive Bryan to Wilson and used Bryan to kill Clark, and then used him to nominate Wilson and thus defeat himself. It was the greatest political stunt ever pulled off. Mr. Taggart, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Ryan, Mr. Bryan, and Mr: Murphy were all riding in the Wilson wagon when the nomination was made. No man can point to a single word or act of these men against Woodrow Wilson. The plan was to control Bryan from start to finish, and that was done.
