Cannot Pay Funeral Expenses Except in Cases of Distress.
In answer to a communication from the governor, in which it was asked whether a township trustee is compelled to contribute the customary SSO for the burial of a war veteran when the veteran did not die a pauper, the attorney-general says that only in cases of paupers or in cases where the of the dead person would be reduced to serious financial embarassment by failure to get the money is the township trustee required to aid in the -burial. The custom In many parts of the state is for the trustee to pay such funeral expenses indiscriminately, and some of the indiscriminate payments have been called to the attention of the governor.
