Obituary of C. H. Cannon.
Clement H. Cannon was born ip Delaware, Sept. IT, 1832, and died id Chandler, Qkla., Thursday, June 13, 1912. He came to Kewanna, Ind., at an early age, and later came to Jasper county, and taught school in the Union school house, about the time the new frame building was erected. The pupils attending then were the families of Uncle David Nowels, Clint Hopkins, Yeomans, Israels and Kentons, and others. On Dec. 6, 1856, he was united in marriage to Eliza Kenton, daughter of Edmund Kenton, and sister of Mrs. Anianda Burk, Mrs. Mary Morgan and Mrs. Elizabeth Hopkins, the two last named now being deceased. In the year 1865 Mr. and Mrs. Cannon left for the west, living at Kansas City, Hutchinson, Howard, Elk Falls, and Arkansas City, and when Oklahoma opened in 1889 they went into that state and remained until his death. Three sons were born to them: George and Charles, deceased; and Harvey, of Chandler, Okla. Mrs. Cannon died two years ago and was taken to Howard, Kan., for burial. The remains of Mr. Cannon were taken and Interred beside those of his wife and sons. The energy that characterized Mr. Cannon as a young man was still with him during bis last years of life. Although he lived to be almost 81 years of age, he was always active, and was daily to be found in the office with his s<yi. He made trips to plies for their store, and never lost left in 1865, they never forgot the old scenes in and around Rensselaer, All these years the Rensselaer Republican has been their regular visitor and Mrs. A Cannon kept a scrap book of clippings from it, concerning all their Intimate friends and relatives. Some of these clippings are taken from the Rensselaer paper at least thirty-five years ago. The Chandler paper gives this tribute to him: "During the many years he has resided in Chandler, Mr. Cannon has so lived his life that not a man in the community is more favorably known or respected. His death is a loss to our town, To the sorrowing relatives the sincere sympathy of all is extended.” V . - We have a large assortment of hair switches and can match any shade. MARY MEYER HEALY
