TOO MANY LABORERS THERE
No Mora Needed In Western Part of Canada, Saya a United Btatee Coneul. Vancouver, B. C.—While It la true that with the approach of spring there are fewer unemployed In British Columbia than a few months ago, it can hardly be denied that there are more than sufficient laborers in this province at present for any demand likely to arise in the course of the year, David T. Wilber reports from Vancouver. . 7 v ".'■' ■■ ■ - # • The immigration of laborers from the United States to Canada should be discouraged until further developments have greatly changedytbe labor situation here. Immigrants'from the United States are bound to be disappointed because of the lower wages, higher cost of living and the great uncertainty of obtaining employments. They should in no case come without sufficient means to keep them for some time in case they cannot obtain employment and to take them back to the United States if finally unsuccessful. However, larger numbers have been attracted to British Columbia than cap possibly obtain work, although the province is developing rapidly. Hardly a day has passed during this winter when the situation of the unemployed in Vancouver has not been brought repeatedly to my attention by destitute Americans seeking 3,000 Americans have permamently returned from Vancouver alone since It should also be added that the lawg against vagrancy be very strict rt '“ nj ta v *“”’ e ''
