The C. W. B. M. met Wednesday. The Presbyterian supper last week gave the ladies >22. A. C. E. Dollar Social is dated for Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Fred Hicks. " The Presbyterian Missionary Society meets with Mrs. Wm ; Rodifer on i Thursday afternoon. Rev. Wharton, of Kentland, came down Tuesday evening to assist the minstrel chorus. Chas. Denham attended the meeting of the commissioners in Rensselaer Monday and Tuesday. The home talent minstrels are preparing -for the benefit of the Federated Clubs. Miss Mabel Kelsey was a guest from Thursday to Saturday of Mr. and Mrs.’ Fern Lough. Miss Kelsey graduated from Vassar last June, being the only Indiana girl to receive honors. 0. E. 8. Farewell Surprise. About two dozen of the O. E. S. ladies planned and successfully carried out a farewell surprise upon Mrs. Thomas Garvin, at the home of her neighbor, Mrs. Luther Brown, Wednesday evening, May Ist. A program of music by_Mesdames Geier and Stoudt arecitatlonby Mrs. Barnesrwas; followed by a dainty luncheon of Waldorf salad, pickles, sandwiches and coffee. Mrs. Garvin is moving to Logansport, leaving Wednesday of this week. She has been an active member cf the O. E. 8., who regret to lose her from their midst. Club Convention. Six club women of our town attended the convention of the 10th district of Indiana at Kentland last Thursday, held in the beautiful new Jibrary. Mrs. Hand, Mrs. Gugg, Mrs. Jas. Washburn, Miss Alice Jones, Miss Pearl Morris and Mrs. Hargreaves enjoyed the many excellent features of the program and the charming courtesies extended the visiting club ladies, by the ladies of Kentland. The Methodist ladies served a three-course luncheon in their church basement. The severe storm delayed matters and prevented the fulfillment of many plans. It was a good natured crowd of ladles, even if the storm did threaten annihilation of the many beautiful spring costumes. The reports of the various clubs of the district were very Interesting, and proved that Remington was abreast of the up-to-date civic movement. For Instance, in our schools we have the drinking fountain; we have experi <nced civic cleaning day; ou,r parks are receiving attention; we have enforced quarantine when necessary; in the business portion food stuffs are protected by the pure food- laws. Remington and Reform are synonomous terms. Reform has “Excelsior —ever upward”—for its' motto. ' Clubs. The N. 8. Sew Club met with Mrs. Maurice Peck Wednesday afternoon, Miss Claire Broadie, president. The Fortnightlies are beautifying the town park by the addition of shrubs and flowering plants and hope to add very materially to the attractiveness of the park. The town board favors every proposed improvement and encourages this club and the work of the Federated Clubs in their selt-
imposed task of beautifying the town. The Sew and Sew Club was received by Miss Alice Jones, Friday, May 3. The pleasant weather helpeu tu muate a good attendance. This club instigated the idea of a sewing bee, where all the club ladies of the town could meet and prepare a part of the costumes for the home talent minstrels who will apupear before the public in the near future. The Study Club met at the home of Miss Margaret Johnston Monday evening. Homer Rhoades gave a very instructive lecture on gasoline engines. Miss Millie Gray reviewed a chapter of Hull House. Officers for 1912-13 were elected as follows: president, Rev. J. B. McNary; vice-presi-dent, Miss Alice Jones; secretary, Homer Roades; treasurer, Miss Mary Bartee. Plans for the new year were inaugurated looking toward Recognition Day at Fountain Park. The last meeting of this club for the season will be with Miss Callie Bonner pn May 27th.
