"Pigeon's Milk."
There are certain, glands in the crop of the pigeon which secrete a thick white fluid, which the young are par* tially fed upon. The distinguished English naturalist, Mr. Edward Jesse, considers that the crop i* greatly thickened and the glands enlarged daring the period of incubation in most birds, just as the milk glands are prepared during gestation in mammals. John Barkroughs, the American naturalist, has shown that a process like that which takas place in the crop of the pigeon has been discovered. in the female crocodile—reptiles and birds being closely skied.
