Screwing Railroad Tracks Down.

With railway traffic ever <m theincrease and timber for ties becoming ever scarcer, the problem of keeping our railroads supplied with suitable ties is one of the biggest that * railroad management has to face. Our railroadswear out upward ot 150,000,000 ties a year, and as they cost oh an average 50 cents apiece the bill runs up pretty high. Hardwood ties, of course, last much longer than soft wood, but they are also much morw expensive. -.-a - • .
