The Band Buys Musical Proved a Grand Success.
The band boys outplayed Sousa last evening at the opera house, and while the crowd whs small In numbers, it Was critical enough to see ttie vast improvement, and what to be the brand ot music at our band concerts this summer. They played popular stuff and ragtime, classics and overtures, and Prof. Braun has demonstrated his ability as an instructor. Paul Beam made his initial appearance to a musical audience and his “Ragtime Violin” was encored to the echo, and he sang “Mysterious Rag” and scored a decided fait. The ever popular Don Beam, the popular local favorite, wds better than usual and in bis “Roll on Thou Dark Blue Ocean,” captivated the house. He was compelled to sing again also. Otto Braun in bis clarionet solo bad the misfortune to pick on the wrong flute but when he discovered his error he quickly demonstrated his complete mastery over that flchle instrument ■- > t ■» Otto can sing to beat the band, and while not on for a solo, his musical tenor voice could be heard above the noise in the Harris ballad, “Don’t Blame Me For Loving You.” The audience was well pleased, the numbers well received and the boys did not get the patronage they deserve. The band is a good one and baa shown marked improvement in the put few months and they merit the patronage of every theatre goer. The G. E. Murray Co.
