Mrs. Homer Slaughter was operated on yesterday in the Women’s hospital in Chicago for tuberculosis of the hip. A. Leopold went to Chicago yesterday, where he will undergo an operation at the North Side Hospital Thursday or Friday Headquarters for lenten foods. The democrats will hold a county convention in Rensselaer on Saturday, March 16, for the purpose of selecting delegates to the state and district conventions. The townßhip assessors met in Rensselaer today to agree upon the basis of assessment and to secure their supplies. They will begin the work of assessing March Ist. The six-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Callahan died last night at 11:30 o’clock of tubercular meningitis. The funeral will be held at 9 o’clock tomorrow at the Catholic church. Interment in Mt. Calvary cemetery, south of town.
J. W. Belshaw, of Lowell, lias withdrawn his a candadate for nomination on the republican ticket for representative from Lake county because of unexpected business developments that will require his presence in Florida this fall and winter. W. R. Lee will start next Monday a week for Arizona to bring home the 50 head of horses obtained in his trade with Henry D. Vance. That is, providing some one. does not offer him too near their value in a good business. Horses sure look lilce money nowadays, but Mr. Lee begins to feel lost out of business. E. L. Hollingsworth returned home last evening. Owing to other business he did not get to make the trip to North Baltimore, Ohio, to investigate the match factory there. At Elkhart he saw. in operation one of the match machines built foßthe Rensselaer factory and was very much impressed with the machine. The committee has not yet returned from Ohio, but the result of their trip will be published as soon as they return. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Duvall and Mrs. Mary D. Eger are still in Grand Rapids, Mich., where they were called Saturday by the death of Mrs. W. H. Cornell, a sister of Mfr. Duvall and Mrs. Eger. Mrs, Cornell before ( ber marriage was Miss Jennie Duvall and resided in Jlensaelaer, Her death took place Saturday morning and was sudden and unexpected. The cause of death wis neuralgia of the heart. The funeral was held Saturday in Grand Rapids. In the majority of cases the amount to be paid by the consumer will be less than the flat rate. This is due to the elimination of waste on the .part of consumers and to the use of tungsten lights. The residents of (he-ekst part of town are still on the flat rate, as all the meters are not yet .installed, but they do not have the day -current. Superintendent thinks the revenue this 'month will fail that of former months, owing to the use of meters.
