The Dance club gave a Valentine hop Tuesday evening. Harold Broadie is giving a valentine party Wednesday evening. The German Medicine Co., is showing in Kennedy’s theatre this Week. Mrs Fred Bishop, of Council Bluffs, lowa, is visiting relatives this month. Mr. and Mrs. Charley Fell are planning to move to Colorado in the near future. A sanitary drinking fountain has been installed on the second floor in the public school. The Presbyterian Industrial Society is dated to meet Thursday, the 15th, with Mrs. Hartman. -The Remington Chapter No. 169 O. E. S. have issued invitations for a valentine masquerade. Announcement cards to several friends from Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Mullen, of Denver, tell of a little daughter who joined their family circle last week. Remington basket ball teams played the Goodland H. S. team last Friday evening, score 26 to 28 in favor of Goodland. The girls scored 6 to 12 in favor of Goodland. A return game in the near future. The Presbyterian Missionary Society met with Mrs. Hartman Feb. 8, giving a program and conducting the annual business meeting which resulted in the re-election of the old officers. Mrs. Goss is the March hostess. Mr. William Garrison was stricken with paralysis Monday a. m., while in the Wilson harness shop, the right side being affected several hours. He is resting comfortably at present and seems to be rallying so his family feel some encouragement. The Farmers’ Institute is to be held in Townsend’s Hall Feb. 21-23. Horace Hoover, Pres.; Roscoe, Eller, Sec.; Executive Committee, J. M. Stanfield, Thos. Blake, Harvey Williams. The lecturers are Oliver Kline, of Huntington county, and Miss Alma L. Garvin.
Clubs. The Sew and Sew Club were entertained by Mrs. Robinson Friday, Feb. 9. Each guest received a handpainted souvenir card, further embellished by a valentine jingle appropriate to the individual, painting and poem the work of the artistic hostess. Mrs. S. Fourneir was hostess to the N. S. Sew Club last Wednesday, receiving at -the home of Miss Lillian Sharkey. Miss Pearl Morris is the hostess for this week. The Study Club met Monday, Feb. 12 with Miss Alice Jones. Program as follows:“Uses o£>Compressed Air,” Mrs, Homer Roades; “Review of Chap: 14, Twentieth Cent. American,” Miss Johnson; “Chap. 1. Hull House,” Mrs. McNary; “Chap. 2. Hull House,” Miss Jones. A description of Hull House Settlement was given by the Misses Jones and Smalley, who spent a day recently in visiting the scene of Miss Jane Addams’ activities. Miss Haner gave an interesting account of a visit there of earlier date.
A mass meeting of the clubs is dated for Feb. 22, 2:30 p. m. Presbyterian church. The Fortnightly Club gave a colonial program Wednesday, Feb. 7, at thehomeofMrii.Frank Howard. many of the ladies appearing in costumes quaint and ancient. A “real live” spinning wheel, adorned the reception hall and surrounded by the colonial dames one fancied the time of Priscilla and John Alden was again at hand. The president, Mrs. Gumm, read a paper on colonial dress and customs, which imparted just the atmosphere necessary. Mrs. Crain in dainty white cap, spotless neckerchief and immaculate apron was a veritable Rose Standish. Mrs. Lough in powdered high coiffure and neck curl, quaint sleeves and laces, silk skirt showing full skirt further extended by hoops, seemed a Atting associate for even Martha Washington. Mrs. Washbum in a rose patterned chailie of two generations past, bonnet, undersleeves and laces all heirlooms, was exceedingly quaint. Her neckerchief was a real political treasure, a souvenir of the campaign of the first Harrison, whose picture showed in the center with the dates of his administra* tion. Mrs. Geo. Chanpell represented a style of 150 years past, a rose-col-ored, quilted, hand woven skirt, laced corselet and white guimpe. Mrs. W. E. Peck, was a matron in white cap, with lavender ties, kerchief and very full skirt. Mrs. Geo. Hascall wore a handsome panier costume of black satin, heavily trimmed in lace, and wearing a cream colored fichie of hand-darned lace fastened with a beautiful cameo brooch in ancient salting. Mrs. Hargreaves appeared as a Quakeress. Several wore kerchiefs and aprons. The hostess was gowned as a Puritan maiden showing white roll cuffs, large collar and cap. Mrs. Warnock, Mrs Bishop, Mrs. Geo. Howard and Miss Haner were the invited guests of the hostess. The club enjoys a reception Thursday of this week with Mrs. Washburn as hostess. Butter wrappers, any quantity, plain or printed, may be had at the Republican office.
