Can’t Even Give a Cigar Away to a Voter This. Year.
That a candidate may not spend money f<t beer, (other intoxicants, cigars,’or any other kind of refreshments, either for voters, for meetings of committees or other gatherings of political workers, and he may not, in a saloon or other places “set ’em up" to cigars, drinks or other things delightful to the. campaign hanger on; the law provides that any person who solicits anything of value from a candidate or his agent in return for political influence, whether the thing solicited is or is not given, is liable to punishment under the law; the purchase of tickets to entertainments, shares of stock, contributions to worthy causes, or to building or other funds, when it might be construed the purchase or contribution yras made for the purpose of affecting votes is prohibited; a committee may not assess a candidate for primary or aieetion'pttrposes.
