Prompt Discovery of Noonday Fire Prevented House Destruction.
The property on ’ north Weston street just vacated by Judson Maines and which his mother, Mrs. Susan Maines, had negotiated to sell to Dr. I. M. Washburn, caught fire this Monday noon. A defective chimney was the cause of the blaze. Miss Ethel McCarthy discovered the fire and the alarm was turned in. It was not long until the fire company appeared and the blaze which was confined to the rear part of the roof was soon under control. The damage will probably not exceed SSO.
Dr. Washbum and some assistants were at the house when the fire was discovered. They had started a fire in the kitchen range and also in a baseburner on the second floor, and were cleaning the house ready for occupancy. As soon as the necessary repairs are made qnd hardwood floors laid Dr. Washburn and family will move to the house. L-—_
