Mrs. O. M. Peek is visiting relatives in Chicago. Born, Ao Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Merrill, Friday night, a son. Miss Theresa Eck, of Goodland, is ’visiting Mrs. John Reed this week. Miss Anna Theis, of Rensselaer, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Saxe Geesa. Will" Petty and sister Miss Frances attended the funeral of Frank Lakin at Rensselaer Sunday. Mrs. Charles Weiss went to Remington Saturday for a two weeks’ visit with her son, Paul Weiss. Miss Esther and Wiseman, of Rensselaer, were visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Wiseman, over Sunday. Mrs. Austin Lakin and daughters, Miss Eva, of State Line, visited her mother, Mrs. Mary Petty, here Sunday and Monday. Mrs. Petty has been seriously ill but is better at present The literary Saturday night was quite a success. The main thing of the evening was the debate, “Resolved that education is better than money." Mr. I. F. Meader, Mr. Charles Harrington and Mr. Jack Reeder took the affirmative. Wallace Miller, Esta Keener and Charles Gasaway the negative. Both sides put up some lively arguments. The decision of the judges was two for the affirmative, one for the negative, Earl. Wiseman acted as chairman. Mr. Todd, Mr. Reed and Mr. Hahn were judges. The next literary will be held at Center, Feb. 10. The question for debate is to be decided.
