Institute in Session; Biff Enrollment of Teachers.

Prof. Sanders, Prof. Latta, Prof. Gillan and Miss Votab are making things hum at the Presbyterian church where the county institute is being held. Prof. Latta arrived Tuesday morning from Purdue, t lie others were here for the Monday scission. There were 83 enrolled Monday; today the number is somewhat larger. Prof. Gillan has an. element of humor that is proving very attractive to all the teacher students, and there will be no sleeping with him in charge. He makes every teacher take some part. They have-to think, one way or the other. They can not dodge issues. They are called upon to recite and it is peculiar to watch the embarrassment among them. -Monday Prof. Gillan asked, “Which is the larger, Texas or About half thought that Texas was. They were told that Australia is six times as large as Texas. Then he asked “Which is the larger body of water, Lake Superior or the Caspian Sea?’’ One lone young man held out that the Caspian Sea was not only larger than Lake Superior, hut larger in water area than all the great lakes combined. He was right, for it is ten times as. large as Lake Superior. “Where would you strike South America if you traveled- straight south from Detroit.” Every one guessed and most of them missed the mark. You would strike in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Ecuador. “There is oiie thing looks good, to me,” remarked a pretty young lady teacher, “and that is the fact that there are more young men teachers than ever before. I favor a getacquainted meeting. No one seems inclined to give any introductions.” “By gum,” remarked a county official this morning, “I never saw so many pretty young lady school teachers before in any life.” Thus the compliments are about equally divided between the sexes and there should be no room for jealousies. Monday morning Miss Minnie Tinkham played the piano and with Miss Votah leading, the teachers sang all the old favorites and sang them out good and loud. Prof. Sanders instructs in the pedagogical lines and is very interesting. Some say this will be the best institute Jasper county ever had and every one is taking a deep interest.
