LOCAL HAPPENINGS. Mrs. Clara Darnell, of Chalmers, was the guest yesterday of Mrs. Moses Chupp. i Miss Emma Huehn, of Hammond, Is spending today the guest of Mrs. Fred McColly. Mrs. W. W. Merrill and daughter, Miss Ina, are spending this week in Chicago. Rev. J. P. Green and son are trying their luck fishing at the Kankakee river today. Frank Welsh and son Merve left this morning for Larimore, N. Dak., on a prospecting trip. Mrs. John Lowe, of Monon, was a guest yesterday at the home of her sister, Mrs. B. J. Moore. Miss Marie Smith went to Chicago this morning for a visit of two weeks With relatives aßd-’friends. Misses Nora Casey and Anna O’Connor, of Chicago, and Miss Hattie Delsell, of Denver, Colo., are visiting friends here. M. M. Ocker was over from Medaryville in his $350 Brush runabout this morning. The little cars are finding much favor with the buying public. Misses Inez and Helen Kiplinger went to Muncie today to visit relatives. Mrs. Kiplinger accompanied them to Frankfort, where they changed.ears. In honor of Miss Bertha Short, Miss Bertha Stocksick will entertain the W. N. O. S. E. Club at her home on Dayton street, Friday evening at 7:30. Judson Perkins went to the Lawler ranch this morning, where his company has been doing a large amount of windmill and tank work this mer.,Mrs. Joseph Lane and daughter, Miss Kathryn, left for a two weeks’ visit at Niagara Falls and Cleveland, Ohio, where they will visit relatives and friends. John Healy went to South Haven, Mich., yesterday for a visit with relatives and to accompany home his children, Lucy and Paul, who have been visiting there. , Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Parkison and daughter Ruth and Mrs. J. D. Allman and daughter Alleen went to Lafayette and Battle Ground this morning by auto to spend theday. Frank Randle spent a few hours yesterday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Randle,'stopping off between trains, while making his rounds as a traveling salesman. A postal card from Mrs. G. A. Strlckfaden directs that the Semi-Weekly Republican be hereafter sent to her at Noblesville, to which city they have removed from Lafayette. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Reubelt and daughter, who have been spending the summer with her relatives here, left this morning for Falmouth, Ky., where he is the superintendent of the public schools. Mrs. Bayard Clark and daughter, Miss Mary; who have been visiting relatives at Monon, are now visiting her husband’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.' E. L. Clark, here. They will remain but a few days. v O. K. Rainier, who had 20 acres of oats near Chalmers that produced 66 bushels to the acre, has returned from superintending the threshing on his other farm, also near Chalmers. He had out 70 acres of oats and it made 52 bushels to the acre. Jake Steeb, manager of the Grown Point baseball team, was asked by pitcher Pete Henning to hold bis puree -last Sunday during a game at Whiting. When Jake went to return the purse It was gone and no trace of it could be found. It contained $25 and some papers of value. Jake thinks the life of a baseball manager is a bard one. He also thinks that if the fellow that has the purse Is a good sport he will return it to its rightful owner without delay.
