Marriage License.
Aug. 4.—Ambrose Francis Marion, born Jasper county, Indiana, May It, 1889, residence Parr, Occupation farmer, and Jessie Estella Parks, born Jasper county, Indiana, July 6, 1893, residence Surrey; first marriage for each. The Mt Ayr Pilot maintains Its hopeful mood about the electric railroad and says that some one will take hold of the project and push it along. That would be possible with Purtelle out of the way, but the franchises and subsidies were voted to a company of which Purtelle seems to be the head and the entire thing, and they can not be wrestled from him easily. Purtelle will probably give them up very reluctantly and it is hardly possible that any one with money would care to aspermit him to do the spending. Unless the dauntless, nervy, energetic and resourceful Gene is able to find some one to help him along it looks rather discouraging for the road. If those who are associated with Purtelle would assert themselves and call for a receiver, the company might then be placed in hands that would go ahead with it, but with labor and other debts hanging over Purtelle and for which his corporation partners might be held liable, it is doubtful if any of them will assert themselves. It is A pity that this road can not be built and a pity that Purtelle, with his ambition, has not the business ability and the tact to complete his work. There would be plenty of aid here for him if the people had confidence in him, but there Is a plain lack of confidence and there seems abundant reason for its existing. * The Domestic Science Club will meet Saturday afternoon at 2:80 o'clock at the public library. Miss McCheyne. of Purdue, will have charge of the meeting.
