NAVAL HEROES RECEIVE MEDALS FROM TAR

PRESIDENT TAFT, as commander-in-chief of the navy, recently presented medals of honor to six members of the erew of the battleship North Dakota for heroic action that probably saved that vessel from complete destruction. On September 8, 1910, after an explosion of oil, these men rushed into the boiler room, brought out the dead bodies of three comrades and successfully fought the fire. In the photograph, from left to right, they are: August HoTtx-of St. Louis, chief water tender; Thomas Stanton of Rhode Island, chief machinist's mate; Harry Lipscombe of Washington, Patrick Reid of New York, Karl Westa of Massachusetts, and Charles C. Roberts of Newton, Mass. . ยป
