Purtelle Comes to Rensselaer; Calls Meeting for Thursday Eve.
Eugene Purtelie came to Rensselaer this Tuesday morning. He is as confident as he ever seemed to be that he is going to build the Northwestern Indiana Traction Co. railroad, and has issued a call for Thursday evening at the court house to discuss with the people his latest project for building his road. He has also issued a call for a meeting at Mt. Ayr for Friday evening. Mr. Purtelie says he will ask that a committee at this place and at Mt. Ayr be appointed to procure the right-of-way and give the road their moral support. He also says that a# soon as the right-of-way is procured he will begin active construction. He stated that he had again started work on the Chicago Heights and Dyer line and will complete it. He hopes to be able to build the line from Rensselaer to Mt. Ayr and then build north from there and south from Dyer and connect the road as soon as possible. He says he has arranged for the backing, but does not state what it is. Mr. Purtelie says he will bring an engineer with him and will go over the project with all who come out to the meeting Thursday night.
