Truth the Vital Force of All Progress.
By Helen Mar.
Reforms are enduring in proportion to the degree of Truth which they contain. • “Striving after Truth’’ is another term for “Seeking right relations with God.” When we have the Truth, 1. e„ are in right relation to the universe, we become messengers of His Work, according to the scope of our individuality. When we are in line with the Eternal Purpose, the whole universe helps us, even as the starved plant after reaching the sunshine receives its own. Our greatest foes lie within us. “Know the Truth and it shall make ye free.” “As a man thinketh, so he is.” If he be full of Truth, he sees Truth in every creature,- great or small. The great naturalist determined the construction of an animal of pre-historic age, from the study of a single bone of its gigantic framework. So every event is so naturally fitted into the complex machinery of human affairs, that any supposed event woven into, the delicate fabric will bear the impress of the author's mind. How truly do we weave our own nets. Responsiveness is the true measure of the soul. As every metal has its distinguishing sound when struck, and the seed in the ground responds to moisture and sunshine, according to its species, so every soul responds to surrounding influences according co its innate desires. The reversion to type surprises us frequently. According to the way in which our natures respond to the clashing of antagonistic or congenial forces, is our metal determined. According to the way in which our minds respond to other minds is our personality determined. Personality is individuality in relation to other individualities. The degree of Truth in the individual determines his power as a personality. The degree of Truth in an individual reform determines its power as an universal reform. For Truth is to progress what the grain of mustard seed is to the tree, or the leaven is to the bread.
