A Fielding Story.

The Fieldings are an ancient race, and the Denbigh earldom dates from 162. Dy the way, there is a funny story as regards the family name and its spelling. The author of "Tom Jones" was one of the race, and the then Lord Denbigh said to his relative: "Why don’t you spell your name ‘Feilding,’ ns the rest of us do, and not ’Fielding'?” The writer made answer: "Because I am the first of the family who learned to spell.”—Gentlewoman.
