“God Forgive Them For They Know Not What They Do.”
Augustus Phillips, who Is still the leading man in the “Miss Ananias” company, is the uncle of Miss Lorene VanNatta, of Fowler, who was married last Friday evening at 8:30 o’clock to Mr. CherrFngton, of Cincinnati. The wedding was the leading society marriage event of Fowler for a long time and there were assembled at the VanNatta home’Tnany out-of-town guests, among whom were Mrs. C. A Roberts and Mr. Fred A. Phillips, of Rensselaer. Just after the marriage when the young couple were receiving the congratulations of their friends a telegram was received from Augustus Phillips, who was that week playing in Washington, D. C. It was opened and read aloud. It said: “God forgive them, fer they know not what they do.” Of course it was understood as a joke, although “Uncle Gus” accompanied It with a telegram expressing his congratulations and well wishes. The bride is a very beautiful young lady and is a graduate of a feminine seminary in Washington. The groom is employed by the government and has his headquarters at Cincinnati, where a home all furnished and ready for their occupancy awaited them upon their reaching that city.
