Valuable Cups for Antomobile Show Events at Lafayette.

Plans for the big bill climbing contests, which will be an important feature of Lafayette’■ first automobile show have practically been completed. The automobile show will be held at the Lafayette Sales company’s pavilion Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 6, 7 and 8, and the hill climbing contests will take place on April 7. The length of the hill on which the contests will be held is a trifle over nine-tenths of a mile. The cars will start at the foot of Robinson avenue on Ellsworth street. West Lafayette, ascend the hill, go across Salisbury street to the county farm gravel road and up the hill past the West Side Water company’s tank, made famous by Purdue’s “tank scrap.” There are several turns on the hill that will task the skill of the car pilots as much as they will the power and capacity of the cars. The contests are open to amateur and professional drivers alike and a number of entries both from local and out-of-town enthusiasts have already been received. Entry blanks can be obtained from C. T. Bartee. There is every indication of an exciting, rivalry and many competitors. With the exception of the free-for-all, all the cars must be stock cars, with the option of strlppyjtfYbut no attachments. Anything may be taken off which, when replaced, makes a stock car. All the cars must he at the hill at 11:45 o’clock on the day of the contests to check in and get numbers and have the gasoline tested. In the contests a second trial will be allowed providing the car does not pass the hundred yard line, but if tire trouble occurs at any place on the hill, a second trial will be given.
