The Iroquois ditch report estimates the benefits to bo derived from the construction to be $143,335 and the cost of construction to be $104,763. The construction cost is based upon 6Vi cents per yard for removing the dirt, While it is believed that a contract will be let for 5 cents per yard or less, which would materially lessen the total cost. Based on the estimate the cost would be less than 75,per cent of the benefits. The petition also shows that the present channel with its angles and bends is about 35 miles in length from the point where the proposed drainage begins to its terminus below Brook. This will be shortened to a little less than 14 miles if the ditch is constructed. The viewers consider the ditch practical and that the land drained will be materially benefited. Following an inspection by Willi* L. Moore, chief of the United States weather bureau, Mr. Moore announced that a complete weather bureau will be opened in Ft Wayne July 1. It will be in charge of a local forecaster and three assistants.
