Vandals Near Depot Tried to Steal Chickens From Car.

All the chicken thieves do not live in the neighborhood of Lee. W. H. Peterson, who is moving to a farm north of Rensselaer, from Sauneman, 111., arrived with two car loads of goods Friday evening and when he went to one of the cars at about 9 o’clock that evening he found some fellow in the car trying to get his chickens. He banged the car door shut and bolted it and then ran back to the depot to get help to capture the thieves. He had taken it for granted that the other car door was fastened but that was not the case and when he returned to the car the would-be thief had made his escape. Probably he had provided that avenue of escape by unbolting the other door before he entered the car. Agent Beam says that there is a great amount of stealing in the freight depot section and all who have cars there had better watch them closely.
