The character of Rebecca, in Scott’s "Ivanhoe” was taken from a beautiful Jewess, Miss Rebecca Grata of Philadelphia. Her steadfastness to Judaism, when related by Washington Irving to Scott, won his admiration and caused the creation of one of his finest characters.
