Russian Jew Attempted Suicide At DeMotte Last Friday Noon.
DeMotte correspondence to Kankatfee Valley Review. " ; A stranger came to town on Friday and loafed around the depot frojn noon until about 4:QO p. m., .when an eastbound extra stopped here, and he went out near the caboose and kneeled down as if in prayer. He then laid down under the caboose with his head on the rail, waiting for the train to start. The brakeman noticed him and he got hold of hia*feet and pulled him out. He brought the man to the depot ahd inquired about him. The man was a Russian Jew and unable to speak English, so some of the boys got Joe Gold, a Russian Jew from Chicago, who has been here buying junk, to talk to the man. He said he was • without money or friends here and did'not care to live, but if he could get to Chicago, where he had friends who were taking care of his money, he would be all right. The boirs donated his car fare and he was supplied with a ticket to Chicago and left on the evening train. He acted very queer all afternoon and wa3 very nervous, something evidently preying on his mind; presumably the act of attempting suicide. He was evidently a working man, as his hands showed he had been working. He had asked for work at some of the farms, but upon finding no work, must have decided to end it all in the manner above.
