Mnncle Chief of Police Convicted Of Running Gambling Den. V ----- Otto Williamson, chief of police of the city of Muncie, was convicted by a jury of operating a gambling room. The scrap of the lawyers in trying the case was very bitter and every effort seems to have been made to «ave Williamson from conviction.
Basketball In Warner’s Hall Tonight at 7:30 O’clock. A general admission of 10 cents will be charged to a game of basketball between St. Joe and Rensselaer high school at Warner’s hall tonight, at 7:30 o’clock. '
Mr. Perry Griffith will teach jou how to dance correctly. As a mem-, her of the American Society of Professors of Dancing, of New York, Mr. Griffith is able to guarantee the very best satisfaction. Opponents of women suffrage are having a nice little laugh over the fact that out of 333 votes cast iu the New York city federation of women’s clubs election'' Friday, 61 were fpund void for improper marking. The women used the Australian system and the ticket was a simple affair. Mrs. Jasperson, of Walker township, who was recently taken to a Chicago hospital for an operation, is said to be in a very critical condition. It was found that in addition to a tumor she also had abscesses on the liver, and it is said to be doubtful if she recovers sufficiently to be returned to her home. She is the mother of Miss Carrie Jasperson, who graduated from the Rensselaer high school in 1909.
Clifford Brown) oldest son of Mrs. Gusta Dunn, accompanied by the latter and her husband, Frank H. Dunn, left for Indianapolis Monday to satisfy a long cherished longing to enter the U. S. navy. He passed the physical and mental examination very satisfactorily, was accepted and on- Tuesday, with a number of other recruits, wub sent to the training station at Norfolk, Va. This makes three of our young people that have entered the U. S. 1 Navy within one year—Erwin Brown, George Griffin and Clifford Brown.—Medaryville Advertiser.
The Rensselaer high school boys have a rather busy program in view, which will begin with a game at Warner’s hall tonight, when St. Joe will oppose them. Friday night they will go to Crown Point to meet the high school boys of that town and Friday night of next week they will have a game here, which will probably be played in the armory. In all games played in the armory the rear stairway will be used. A new court will be laid out, which will be in the east end of the drill hall, with the baskets on the north and south walls
Miss Marie Comer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Comer, of Union township, will start for California this evening, where she will remain for several months. The trip is prompted by her failing health, which was probably occasioned by her entering high school when she was too young. She has an aunt, Mrs. A. J. Boston, at Santa Monica, an uncle, Charles Bruce, at Long Beach, and will be at their homes during her stay in the west. She will probably return here and take up her school work next winter.
CJiief Dehority has ruled that teachers* are entitled to pay for "visiting day.” One trustee had refused to pay for that day, contending that the enjoyment the teacher got out of the day was her reward, but the big chief says that they shall be paid. Several teachers from Shelby county decided to Bpehd one day last week visiting the state legislature, with the contention that they would be better able to instruct their pupils in civil government if they had seen the solons in session. The .trustee thought they should not be paid. The chief holds that they shall be.
