DELPHI TO HOLD OPTION ELECTION ON FEBRUARY 28.

Carroll County City Which Went “Dry” by Big Majority Two Years Ago Will Put Up Fight.

The commissioners of Carroll county Monday afternoon granted a petition for an election in Delphi to settle the question as to whether that city will continue “dry” or will reinstate saloons. The date was set for February 28thj At the election under the county option law held two years ago Carroll county voted “dry” by a majority of 1,942. In Deer Creek township, in which Delphi is situated, the “dry” majority was 342, but it is impossible to tell what part of this majority was in the city and what part in the township outside of the city. Delphi is half way between Lafayette and Logansport, two cities that voted “wet,” but it is confidently believed that it will again vote to keep out the saloons. - - Grant county, of which Marion is the county seat, has acted promptly and petitions were filed covering every unit in the county, thirteen townships and the citiea of Marion and Gas City. The board will probably order an election held at the same time all over the county. This would be a proper proceedure in Jasper county and would doubtless save considerable expense, as all notices of election could be embodied in one and the notices posted all over the county at one time, thus saving the expense of separate notices. There are thirteen townships and the city of Rensselaer, making fourteen units in this ebunty. Rensselaer is ready and every other unit should get busy with petitions and have all in readiness for the meeting of the commissioners the first Monday in March. We believe that the temperance interests will find this plan much in their favor as there will be less opportunity in out townships for interference of those who favor saloon reinstatement. Kokomo, in Howard county, is another city to get in early with a petition and an election will be held there on February 28th also. Portland and Huntington have also asked for an election.
