THAT NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION.

Resolutions are good for us all. They are the things upon which we build. .They are an acknowledgment to ourselves that we have not done so well but what we might do better. They are really plans for the future by which we hope to accomplish something. They are the guard we have against aimlessness. A resolution should be the purpose upon which we build our lives, and it has been so often proven that the man with a purpose is the man who succeeds, that every person should be continually trying to accomplish something. It is pitfful to realize that failure is brought about because of the lack of purpose; because the talents with which man has been endowed have been hidden or wasted' and yet these two things are responsible for' practically all failures. Man is the mailer of his own fortune and if he has failed he must trace the cause to himself. He has not tried as he might. The greatest success is the one that has encountered difficulties and overcome them, that has succeeded in spite of opposition. The possibility of success is openalike to us all. Some can not. realize this, but it is so. We can make a success if we tty from whatever station of life we start. But it can not be done without effort. And “now we are approaching a New Year. Its pages are spotless and we are to make the record that is to fill them. 'sVhat we do will be recorded indelibly and we can look back when the year is done and read the record, Just as we can look back now and view our conduct of the past’ year.

We should be unwilling to see the record of the past year transcribed on the pages of the new. And if we are not satisfied, or, if we are, we should at least try to make the new one better. This can be accomplished by a resolution if you will do the things necessary to make the resolution win. -- Set your purpose high, make your resolution to accomplish it, and then usd all the faculties you possess to win out. 'Never say- die, don’t tire, don’t give up, make each obstacle serve a purpose and ‘work it out. Born in you you are the elements of success, but you mukt develop them, and a resolution made at this season will inspire you to succeed. WORK; ,aye there ,is the rub. Most failures are because men will not work, They perform a day’s labor and are satisfied, but if they worked with a will, ‘with a purpose, with a desire to make their work the best that can be made, if they thought and studied and planned and made their work show for itself, it would stand out prominently, no matter what the task • had been. So, if you make a resoluion for the New Year, make it to WORK and to THINK, 't’hat is a combination that produces results and acts as a safeguard against those forces that seek to defeat success. Do pot make your resolution timidly, Do not make It in jest. Do pot make it boastingly. Make it to yourself with a Will and a determination and start the clean pages of the new book with a decision to be proud at the end of the year with the way it reads. Bad habits are thieves of time, of health, of talent. It is all right to resolve against them. But if the two central thoughts of this appeal are followed, the bad habits will disappear because there is no room for them with the man who is really trying to succeed. ' ' Make the resolution now. Make it to WORK and to THINK?
