About sixteen couples of young people have been invited to the residence of Mrs. F. A. Ross to participate in a dance this evening. Mrs. W. F. Smith went to Chicago yesterday, and Mrs. F. B. Ham went today and tomorrow they will be joined by their husbands for an over New Years visit. Some tremendous reductions in footwear at. Fendig’s Exclusive Shoe store. Every broken lot must be moved, hence we can give you a good shoe for a little money. < Fendig’s Exclusive Shoe Store, . - Opera House Blocs Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Smith entertained over Christmas Mr. and Mrs. William Ulyat and family, of Brook; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wood and family, of Mt. Ayr, and Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Rauch, of Indianapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Rauch were married on December 6th, and her maiden name was. Miss Ruby Cooper. She is a niece of Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Ulyat. . ■ ,1,1 ■ In spite of earnest appeals of Senator Shively and Representative Crjimpacker, the department has issued an order for the deportation of three Hungarian emigrants, Mato Pustena, his daughter Stanca and his granddaughter, Lyuba Paljug, who are held at Ellis Island as undesirable citizens. They were enroute to Hammond to the home of the son-in-law of Mato Pustena. Judge Joseph G. Ibach, of Hammond, will leave for Indianapolis Friday night to take up his work as appellate judge. The firm of Ibach & Cravens has been dissolved, and it is that Mr. Cravens will become the law partner of William J. Whinery. Judge Ibach will retain his residence in Hammond, although he will spend five days of the week in Indianapolis.
D. A. Dirst, who lives northwest of Mt. Ayr, but who comes to Rensselaer more often than he goes any other place, was in town today and left his subscription for The Repub lican, a thing he had been planning to do for some six months. He is one of a number of dairymen who has been attracted to Rensselaer by the favorable cream market and also finds our city a good trading point The Monticello Democrat says that the Monon should favor Monticello with a new depot also, The Democrat is right, but we hope there will be no general effort to secure new depots until after the one is constructed in Rensselaer. A general demand might prevent the construction of any of them, while, if all wait until Rensselaer is supplied, then the improvement here can be made an argument for improvement at other places. Monticello needs a union station. It would be a great convenience to the traveling public. G L. Bader, of the Winamac Bridge Works and Contractor F. M. Williams left Saturday, December 24, for Muskogee, Okla., where they will investigate several prospective bridge jobs. Mr. Bader is interested in the steel work and Mr. Williams intends putting in the cement work if their plans work out satisfactorily. Several bridges will be erected near Muskogee during the coming season and it is hoped that the Winamac contractors with their wide experience will secure a liberal share of the work.—Winamac Republican.
