Five Youngsters “Canned” at St. Joseph’s for Smoking.

Five youngsters took trains In Rensselaer this Thursday morning for their homes. They had. been expelled from St. Joseph’s college for smoking and other thiDgs. Apparently from the light and careless talk the boys engaged in they had been incorrigibles and had been sent from the col-, lege as a last resort in maintaining discipline. All the boys were puffing cigarettes and telling how glad they were to be “free.” These boys will probably- come around to a different way of thinking, when they grow older and they will look back to the period of opportunity so greatly neglected and decide that it was themselves and not the instructors that were wrong, and they will probably come to the conclusion that “freedom” does not mean relief ty’om the school room but that the greatest freedom and independence comes from improving the opportunities of youth in the preparation for the future. From the college’s standpoint it would seem that it was really a “good riddance” to get the boys away from the school.
