Edward Douglass White Now Supreme Court Chief Justice.
President Taft named Associate Justice Edward Douglass White, of Louisiana, as chief justice and tlxe senate Monday confirmed the appointment. Justice White is a democrat. He served as a state senator in Louisiana when only 29 years of age, became a United States senator jn 1891, and was appointed an associate justice of the U. S. supreme court Feb. 19, 1894. He is 65 years of age.

Posey, his personal friend, but political enemy, whose position as surveyor of customs is being sought for by a politician of Evansville. Presbyterian Ladies’ Bazaar December 16th and 17th.
The Presbyterian ladies’ annual bazaar will be held Friday and Saturday, December 16th and 17th, in Mrs. Purcupile’s millinery store. Manyuseful and ornamental articles will be on sale. On Saturday a market will be run in connection with the bazaar. Home made candies will be on sale and lunch will be served. The ladies will also have on sale “Shino,” a chemical floor mop that absorbs the dust and polishes the surface. The Shino is sold for less money and gives better results than other mops. The price is 50 cents.
