Thieves Steal 21 Turkeys From Widow Near Lee.

Monon News. A bold theft was committed in the. Lee neighborhood Tuesday of last week. Twenty-one turkeys belonging to Mrs. Kate Holman and son-in-law, were stolen and all efforts to apprehend the thieves have thus far failed. The turkeys were all white and the last seen of them they were going in the direction of Samuel Noland’s farm just across the road from the Holman place, where they frequently ranged. The theft must have occurred during the day, as a search was made for them at night and they could not be found. Every turkey on the place was taken, which at the prevailing high price means no small loss to the owners. Buyers at several poipts were notified of the theft, but no word has been obtained that would prove a clew to the guilty parties. It is believed that they were familiar with the surroundings and do not live far away. It is hoped that the perpetrators will yet be captured and receive the full penalty of the law. The proper place for a chicken thief is behind prison bars and a turkey thief should fare no better.
