DISCOURAGED GIRI, SOUGHT DEATH TO RELIEVE HER.
Miss Florence Kayes Took Paris Green In an Effort to End Life That Held Out Small Hope. Miss Florence Kayes, 40 years of age, who makes her home with her invalid mother, aged 71 years, made a' vain effort to take her . life Monday afternoon. She had taken a large amount of paris green poison, probably at about 2 o’clock in the afternoon, and was discovered at about 4 o’clock by Mrs. William Fry, a neighbor, who called to see them. A physician was at once summoned and he resorted to heroic means to save the life -of the woman and it is probable that he was successful, at least she is very much improved this mbrning. Nausea had been produced by Ilia, poison and most of it had been vomited up, which doubtless was all that prevented her death. - ,
Miss Kayes is a a*nd her devotion to her mother has been very constant.- It Has been so confining that it has resulted in the failing of her own health and thus discouraged, she sought to end her life. When she regained consciousness after the work of the doctor she expressed herself, as disappointed that her effort 7 to end her life had been unsuccessful. The case is a very sad one, as Miss Kayes is a splendid young woman and her devotion to the heavy charge of her mothers care hAs been well known to all who are acquainted-with the family. It would be a great blessing if something could be done to lighten the burden that has rested so heavily on her shourders. Her mother, Mrs Mary D. Kayes, suffered a stroke of paralysis almost three years ago, and the last year fell and so severely
strained herself that she has been unable to leave her bed since that time without aid. Miss Florence has been her constant companion and has had to lift her mother whenever she moved. It was a great task and the body gave way and the heart became discouraged with the burden that seemed to increase with time. It was thought this morning that she would recover, although she was very sick. Mrs. James Norris and Mrs. James Fisher are sisters of Miss Kayes.
