THE OFFICIAL VOTE
RENSSELAER, INDIANA, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1910.
Republicans Successful in Most All County Offices in Benton.
Benton county, normally strongly republican, but which has heen electing a number of democratic county officers for a number of years, owing to factional troubles In the republican party, got almost back into the straight republican column at this election. The democrats elected only two officers, the clerk and sheriff. The defeated republicans were Benj. F. Ladd, for clerk, and Chas. H. Staples for sherifT. Ladd was defeated only 38 votes. The county went republican on the state ticket 239 votes. Crumpacker carried it by 13 and Will It. Wood for state senator by 199. Other republicans elected to office in Benton county werer ‘ William H. Cheadle, treasurer, by 10; Don Heaton surveyor, by 184; Russell Ewbank, assessor, by 113; Zephyr Perry, commissioner 3d district, by 83. One of the very satisfactory results was the election in Benton and Warren counties of George Colvert for joint representative. He had been made the target for a very mean attack by the Benton Review. He is a cousin of George Colvert, of Rensselaer. In Carroll county the ticket was divided. The democrats elected the treasurer, surveyor, coroner, sheriff and two commissioners, while the republicans elected the auditor, assessor and joint prosecuting attorney. Pulaski county went democratic, but by only a small majority, while James R. Guild, of Medaryville, who was running for joint representative, carried the county by 39 votes. He was probably defeated, however, Jd the district. 1

John Howe to Assist in Care Of His Wife and Child.
John Howe, the Medaryville brick mason, who married Miss Lillie Sheetz last March and then deserted her, and was arrested and brought here to answer a charge of desertion, has effected a compromise in the form of an agreement to help support his wife and their baby. He paid SSO down and will pay her $lO per month in the winter and sls a month in the summer for the support of the child. In company of an officer Howe was taken before his wife and the agreement which he—proposed was made good by his father, Richard Howe, signing the agreement. The agreement oniy holds good until he bfm paid her $350. While at the home of his wife he refused to even look at their child and in answer to her pleading that they live together he turned a deaf ear. Howe was married twice before and is alleged to have deserted both other wives. At the end of two years he can be sued for divorce and alimony.
Charley Harriott Lost Both Of His Driving Horses.
Mention was made in a previous issue ■ about one of Charley Garriott’s horses dying and that the other was sick. The second horse died later and the mystery surrounding their death is very profound. Charley has decided) to send the stomach of one of the animals to the state chemist for examination to ascertain if they were poisoned. It was a floe team and the loss is a severe one for the owner.

Crnmpacker’s Majority Increased By Late Returns; Barnard Defeated.
Later returns indicate that Hon. Edgar D. Crumpacker’s majority has increased considerably from the first estimate and that he carried T «irn county by about 1,200, instead of only 380. It is probable that his plurality in the district will be about 2,300. - Barnard, in the 6th, the only other republican congressman In Indiana, seems by the later returns to have met defeat. John L. Moorman, of Knox, for whom there was considerable local feeling, was defeated by Barnhart, of Rochester.
