WILL NOT AFFECT MICHIGAN
One of New Rules In Regard to For» ward Pass and Other on Pass Back Been Practised. Two of the most important rule changes will not affect the Michigan football players in the slightest, because plays based upon conditions allowed by these changes - were drilled into the men for weeks last season. The chances are those which allow a forward pass to go over any part of the line cud which allows a man in the backfleld to take the ball directly from center and strike the opposition at any point. Those who watched Michigan play in either the Pennsylvania or Minnesota games last November will remember the line shifts that did so much to gain yards for the supporters of maize and blue. Yost’s, maneuvers called for a shift which left the center at one extremity of the line. From this formation any sort of a play could be started and, as when tried, started with splendid chances of great success. The Michiganders made end runs, straight bucks, forward passes, on-side kicks —almost everything from this formation. When the long passes Were made with the forwards so arranged they many times went directly over the center of the line of scrimmage which, with the center stationed at end, would be the required five yards away from the spot on which the ball rested when put in play. Again, countless straight bucks were made on a direct pass. The ball, of course, went from center to runner at an angle. This did away with the necessity of running fl.ve yards to the right or left, as the case might be.
