Failing in her efforts to bring about a reconciliation with her husband, whom she sued for divorce some time ago, Mrs. Rose Green, of Leesburg, tried to commit suicide with carbolic acid. She will recover. In a letter to Joseph G. Butler, Jr., of Youngstown, Ohio, President Taft Friday approved a project for a memorial hall and monument at Niles, 0., to perpethate the name of the late Williapi McKinley. President Taft lauded the life and work of McKinley. In a complaint that fairly sizzles with profanity alleged to have been uttered by the defendant, Mrs. Mary E. Cockran, of Kokomo, has asked for a divorce from John D. Cockran. She says her husband cursed her and went fishing when she asked him to go to church. / Superintendent King and several employes of the Union starch and refining plant, at Edinburg, Johnson county, narrowly escaped death when excessive pressure caused the explosion of a feed dryer there. A heavy iron door was blown through a wall. Oakland City, is in a ferment over the seizure of a large quantity of whisky and beer from the home of James V. Murphy, a wealthy oil operator, while he was giving a “house warming.” The booze was carried away. Over 100 guests were present. Murphy will be tried next Thursday. President Taft has arranged for an innovation to be tried election night. The president will be on a train between Cincinnati and Washington when the returns come in. Special wires in the White House will receive bulletins, and these will be sent to the stations along the line, so the president may receive news wherever the train stops. He will vote in Cincinnati. Following a conference between President Taft and Assistant Attor-ney-General Kenyon last Saturday at Washington, D. C., it was learned that the suits against the beef trust in Chicago will come up for trial in January. The fight will be opened with an attempt to have the indictments quashed, The government will make a strong stand against the demurrers. Promoters of the proposed race track and moter speedway in South Bend held a meeting Friday night and organized in the name of the South Bend and Mishawauka County Fair association. Dr. F. R. Carson, president of the Central Baseball league, was chosen president, and former Mayor Edward J. Fogarty secretarytreasurer. The company will incorporate at once.
