W. J. Bryan got an awful prosperity bump In Indiana. Col. Bryan refused to show his colors in- Indiana this year. Tom Taggart has called on the mud battery reserves, and has sent them into action already. John Kern will not be co hilariously humorous when he gets through explaining the corporation joker he slipped into the liability law in 1893. Compare the Republican and Democratic state tickets, man for man, and you will vote the Republican ticket as a measure of safety and common gumption. The Democratic legislature of 1909, from its jackpot caucus to its plunderfest and on to the climax of mismanagement which has disordered the public finances, did nothing to inspire public confidence. If the voters Judge Democrats by their fruits, there will be mighty few Democratic lawmakers at the state house in 1911. How many damage salts has John W. Kern won for the railroads and against the Injured employe under the Joker he slipped into the Indiana liability law in 1893? The reoords of the Marlon county courts carry many of these eases. By Kern’s own word, given in 1908, he has been a railroad lawyer, riding on railroad passes. Atteoks Protection. Our onslaught Is upon the doctrine of protection In Its entirety.—Thomas R. Marshall, Demoeratio governor of Indiana. Same old onslaught in the same old way. Remember ’92. Kern and the Tariff.. What kind of a tariff does Mr. Kern favor? Would he vote to remove the 85 per cent tariff from furniture. If so he should tell, it to the people of Batesville. Will he vote to remove 25 oents a bushel from wheat, 15 cents a bushel from corn, 15 cents from potatoes, 5 cents a pound from butter, 6 oents from cheese, 6 cents from bacon and 5 cents a dozen from eggs? If so, he should tell the farmers. Let Mr! Kern tell us what he stands for. Batesville Tribune. Our Classified Column will sell, buy, find, rent, or exchange it. Phone 18.

RASH PROMIBES. Democrats Heatedly Deny Taggart's Right to Pick Deputies. In Marion county the Democratic chairman, named by Tom Taggart, has been promising deputyships in county offices to colored voters in return for their support for the Democratic nominees. Chairman Brown made his yarn so strong and emphatic that he brought out hot denials from •Democratic candidates for county offices. The versatile and agile chairman told colored voters that he, the chairman, under Taggart, would “approve” all the deputyships under the Democrats who might be elected to county office, and that he would hand out those deputyships to men who did the most work for the cause. Jacob Woessner, Democratic candidate for sheriff, and Carl Von Hake, Democratic nominee for treasurer, have gone to the newspapers to deny that Tom Taggart’s county chairman, or Tom Taggart, will have anything to say about their deputies, if they are This goes still further to show not only the , Taggart method, but proves what sort of demoralization has hit the Democratic organization in Marion county. And with Marion county going Republican, as it undoubtedly will go, the state is safely Republican by a pleasing and gratifying margin Kern’s Eraser. John W. Kern has had his turn aq an eraser, also. When Mr. Kern was officially notified of his nomination for vice presi ’ent, in 1908, he went so far as to rub the name of Thomas Taggart off his program of festivities, substi, fitting for Taggart’s name the words, “national committeeman from Indiana.” Was Mr. Kern ashamed of the name of Taggart? He did not show that shame the other night when he sneaked along Indianapolis alley-ways with Taggart to attend dark room meetings of Taggart ward heelers.
