HOW DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES DIFFER.
“Within sixteen months after the passage of the Dingley tariff Mil In 1897 the prices on woolen articles increased almost 100 per cent, affecting all woolen articles.”—John B. Peterson, democratic candidate for congress, in speech at Rensselaer, Oct 17th.
“Albert J. Beveridge refused to vote for the Payne-Aldrich tariff because the woolen ached nle was too high. Doesn’t Mr. Beveridge know that there has not been a change in the woolen schedule for 48 years.”—John Kern, democratic candidate for U. S. Senate, In speech delivered In Rensselaer, Oct. 21st
Intelligent people who heard both speeches will naturally wonder how the Dingley tariff which substituted the Wilson tariff could have raised the price of woolens almost 100 per cent when the woolen schedule was n->l altered and In fact has not been changed for 48 years prior to the enactment of the Payne-Aldrich tariff. Mr. Peterson and Mr. Kern should have i- conference.
