“St. Elmo,” one of the greatest successes of recent years, will be seen at the opera house Oct. 15th. Read the book. See the play. If you have not read Augusta J. Evans’ wonderful novel, do so now. There is a strong element of comedy in “St. Elmo,” the part of YanJiggens being one of the best comedy parts written in years. As popular as the book, also proves true with the play. The business now being done by this company is phenomenal. The play is handsomely mounted, great care being taken to give the proper scenic effects. The engagement gives every promise of more than ordinary success. The company will play this city on Saturday night, Oct. 15th. Abraham Eby, former mayor of Burkeville, Va., who was convicted in Philadelphia a year ago and sentenced to a year’s imprisonment for having blackmailed the late President Cassatt, of the Pennsylvania railroad, will be released Oct. 19, and will be rearrested by order of the postoffice authorities on the charge of having used the United States mails for sending threatening letters to Mr. Cassatt.
